Aki's, located on the finger wharf in Woolloomooloo, is offering a five course set menu (meat or vegetarian) on February 14 this year to mark Valentine's Day. Aki's is a fine dining restaurant which offers authentic and delicious Indian dishes, made from the freshest produce available. Diners can bring their loved ones to share delectable Valentine-themed Indian dishes created by owner and head chef Kumar Mahadevan on the dockside.

Centuries ago in India it was believed that couples fell in love when struck by the rose-decorated arrows of Kamadev, the Hindu lord of love. This fascination with love vanished in the Middle Ages until a decade ago, when Valentine's Day began to permeate Indian culture. Economic globalisation brought in a new culture of elegant restaurants and dance clubs, foreign satellite channels and expensive card shops. Even those millions unable to access such luxuries have still been touched by Valentine's universal gift of love.

Hype over Valentine's Day begins weeks prior to the event in India. Television, radio and print media cover all facets of it in the month leading up to Valentine's Day. Gift and card companies launch rigorous campaigns, decorating their shops with themed symbols such as roses, cupids and heart shaped balloons.

The special Valentine's menu at Aki's will include Dum Ka Murg (slow cooked chicken with cashew, yoghurt and onions with a tempering of black cumin), Tawa Masala Machi (Tawa Grilled King George Whiting served with crispy Jaipuri Bhindi) and Makai Saag (Baby eggplant stuffed with crushed peanuts and chillies in a sauce of tomatoes, ground coconut, cumin and turmeric). Each diner will receive a complimentary glass of Champagne Henriot Brut Souverain.
