Born in Casablanca and raised in the ‘kitchens’ of this famous city, Omar Majdi arrived on the shores of Australia in 1987, introducing Sydney siders to the tantalizing aromas of Moroccan Cuisine.

Following in the success of his previous establishments, The Mosquito Bar, Dar Essalem Casablanca, Out of Africa and most recently, Tajine, Omar’s current dining vision is to take Moroccan cuisine to new levels of appreciation.

Moroccan cuisine has long been considered one of the most diverse in the world. It is a unique blend of culinary traditions and influences which have merged over the centuries from North African Berber, to Moorish, Middle Eastern, Jewish, Mediterranean and French.

Souk in the City, is Omar’s new and alluring restaurant, where Marrakesh mystique meets Sydney sensual.

Traditionally a souk arouses all the sense ~ touch, sight, smell, hearing and taste . . . and as a passionate host and restaurateur, Omar would like to invite you to his Souk in the City - to awaken your dining senses and take you on an exotic culinary journey.

From Tuesday 30th October SOUK will be launching Movie Night, when moviegoers can look forward to a two course menu, including a glass of white, rose or red wine, for $35.00 per person. SOUK is conveniently located just a short stroll from the cinema strip on Oxford St.

On the first Wednesday of each month, starting from 5th December, we bring you Energy Night, where diners are invited to enjoy a three course meal at $45 a head, with a glass of white, rose or red wine. SOUK will take romance to new levels on these nights, as we rely solely on candles for ambient lighting while doing our part for the environment.

SOUK continues to offer innovative and delicious catering ideas during this holiday season this season and through 2008. Why not plan a Moroccan experience created in your own home? We can also provide a Tent Royale for your garden, to make your party magical.
