Mongers is now putting its famous Ferguson family recipe Clam Chowder on the menu for just $14 for a huge bowl with toasted Turkish bread – perfect for a cheap and chic BYO dine-in option or a quick and healthy take-away lunch or dinner.
Chefs and owners David and Heather Ferguson say Mongers’ seafood chowder is a healthy take on the traditional American Clam chowder, with generous serves of mussels, white fish, octopus and calamari in a delicate bouillabaisse stock made with white wine, fragrant celeriac, leeks and fresh herbs.
Mongers is renowned for making fish and chips healthy and adding a modern twist without being high on price. Up to 80 per cent of mongers’ seafood is served grilled rather than fried and with its huge signature garden salad, golden cob of corn and crispy kumara or tempura vegetables. A serve of BBQ or tempura Australian tigers prawns with hand cut chips and sweet chilli dipping sauce is AUD$14.50.Tempura or grilled fish and chips with home-made tartare sauce starts at just AUD$10.50 or AUD$6.50 for kids.
Mongers’ fresh daily specials are only AUD$15 and include Mediterranean Blue eye cod, Salmon or Cajun Kingfish with lemon and pepper, served with Mongers’ famous hand cut chips - voted Sydney’s best chips twice!
