The Fishmonger's Wife at East Brisbane has reeled in Crisco Oils' "Australia's Best Fish & Chip Shop 2008" winning against almost 200 other fish 'n' chip shops across Australia. The competition was fuelled by 9,600 online votes and The Fishmonger's Wife beat their nearest competition by over 400 votes. Shop co-owner Sue Meadowcroft, said she and husband Steve serve five-star quality seafood just at a cheaper price. Even PM Kevin Rudd, who used to regularly dine at The Fishmonger's Wife when he lived in Brisbane, noticed the shop's win and sent congratulations. The Fishmonger's Wife is situated at the corner of Lytton Road and Northcote Street, East Brisbane, Queensland.
