Excellent food. Much better to eat in than take away because the food is hotter and fresher. The tempura dishes eaten in the restaurant are a case in point, much better in the restaurant. Consummately fresh and tasty. Range is good but many of the more interesting and authentically regional dishes are missing.

i went to dinner with my family before they were closing and the service was fast, and the food, my god they had the BIGGEST chicken breast i have ever seen! amazing

The service was very good but the food was not! We had the Chiba special (sushi/sushimi platter for 2) the fish and prawn did not taste at all fresh and the fish had not been properly trimmed I am very far from a chef but I would have cut half of that fish away before serving it, it didn't look or taste good!
The miso soup was good.

Perfect!
Food is the best Japanese in Melbourne without a doubt. Chiba is excellent value with 90% of meals under $20!! Friendly staff and efficient service. I highly recommend the Gyu niku maki and the tempura. The sushi is always fresh and as a whole the menu is great.
